No, it isn't their job but like Wikipedia, Google (who are technically not on blackout but have a nifty censorship bar over their logo today), Reddit among many others, they choose to spread the word and get people to contact local senators and congresspeople and get involved in something that will affect users of all kinds - from the independent artist to the small business owner to the journalist/blogger et cetera. One voice is but a whisper, many voices can stir buildings from their very foundations and shake the microcosms of those who would blindly support bills like SOPA and PIPA. It can serve to link to outside sources that discuss the little known OPEN Act and that breakdown exactly why SOPA/PIPA are dangerous. And that brings me back to my original statement, I was disappointed that dA wasn't participating *until* I saw how many Deviants were going ahead and bringing attention to it themselves. It completely makes up for dA not holding a blackout. And to say it is not much is erroneous - just within the last day and a half more than a few co-signers to SOPA / PIPA formally took their names off of the bill no longer co-signing, and some of them were major pushers of the bill in the first place! So to say it is not much is not correct at all, we are winning little battles here and there - we have yet to win the war, yes, but we are making strides.
